Job Description:
The Monarch School and Institute is dedicated to providing an
innovative, therapeutic education for individuals with neurological
differences?such as those associated with autism spectrum disorder,
attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder, learning disabilities,
Tourette syndrome, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, traumatic
brain injury and seizure disorders. We offer a learner-centered
approach that helps students progress in Four Core Goal areas.
Performs routine occupational therapy treatments according to
client treatment plans under the direction of a licensed
occupational therapist, especially activities of daily living, play
skills, and sensory integration. Documents findings, progress and
instruction to clients and caregivers. Assists with program
development. Provides training and guidance to students and
interns. Assist occupational therapist with department operations.
REPORTS TO THE Coordinator of Therapy Services Team EDUCATION
Graduate of an accredited occupational therapist assistant or an
occupational therapist program. Current Occupational Therapy
Assistant license by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy
Examiners (TBOTE). Preferred certification by the National Board
for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Minimum of 2
years' experience preferred. EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates commitment
to The Monarch School mission and values. Assumes responsibility in
the care of the client. Implements an occupational therapy
treatment program as described by an occupational therapist?s
written plan of care. Provides occupational therapy services under
the supervision of the OT and modifies treatments only as allowed
by the plan of care. May screen clients for possible OT services
under the direction of an OT. Monitors client?s condition and
progress towards treatment goals. Provides education to staff and
family about the client?s treatment plan. Works with other members
of the therapy services team and school faculty to develop programs
consistent with the needs of the population we serve. SKILLS
Experience with sensory integration based therapy, particularly
with children with neurological differences Demonstrates leadership
and strong communication skills Previous experience working with
children and young adults WORKING CONDITIONS The position requires
occasional to frequent lifting up to 25-50 pounds; prolonged
standing frequent walking, stooping and squatting. Fine hand
dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and
written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing
are also necessary. The visual ability to monitor instruments,
computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters,
distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are
essential to this position.
