Scientist will assist with program development and coordination of
projects on the migration ecology and population connectivity of
several target species under investigation by the Gulf Research
Institute of Highly Migratory Species (e.g., tarpon, tuna, cobia,
etc.). Primary tasks will include 1) participate with all aspects
of research on migratory species, including field work, data
analysis, and reporting, 2) perform data analysis on the
tropicalization of finfishes along the Texas coast resulting in a
final manuscript, and 3) lead hard part (otoliths, vertebrae)
geochemistry analysis using LA-ICPMS on species as needed. In
addition, the research scientist will assist with other activities
related to GRIHMS including reporting, presentations, fundraising

or move 40 lbs Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed This
position may be responding to off-campus sites and events and will
need to be able to drive a personal or university Machines or
equipment such as spectrometers, and lab equipment will be used in
the performance of essential duties Preferred Education and
Experience:Ph.D. degree in Oceanography specializing in Marine
Fisheries and otolith chemistryIn addition to the required
experience, professional involvement in the Texas tarpon fishery
for the past five yearsProfessional experience teaching at the
undergraduate levelPreferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:A
demonstrated track record of fisheries research: basic knowledge of
fish, ability to identify fishes to the species level, data
analysis skills, and a demonstrated writing abilityAbility to
multitask and work with othersAbility to work independentlyAbility
to design, plan, conduct, and coordinate experiments in support of
various research projectsKnowledge of word processing, spreadsheet,
and database applicationsVerbal and written communication
skillsPreferred Licenses and Certifications:Advanced Open Water
SCUBA and Nitrox certificationsPreferred Other Factors: The ability
to interact well with the public and work well with all groups of
people of varying ages and educational backgrounds.
