WorkerJob DescriptionThe MART 498 student assistant will, under
general supervision, assist the instructor in the maintenance and
inventory of medical training equipment used during the course,
including its preparation, set-up, utilization, and storage. The
student assistant will endeavor to attend as many MART 498 lab
periods as possible, and master the cognitive course material to
assist in its classroom presentation both during lab and lecture.
Proctoring of examinations may be required. Some clerical tasks may
be assigned.Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibilities
of the MART 498 Student Assistant will be actively participating in
preparation and supervision of MART 498 labs and lectures. The labs
utilize CPR manikins, full-body manikins, AED trainers, ventilatory
assistance devices, splints and bandages, vital sign instruments,
backboards, cervical spine collars, etc. The student assistant must
be knowledgeable in the storage locations of all equipment, its
proper use and handling.General QualificationsApplicant must be in
good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higherExperience as an
EMT or paramedic, or other medical professional desired; other
desired experience includes lifeguard, combat medical training, or
STCW qualified as Medical Care Provider or Medical Person in
Charge.Applicant will optimally not be planning on graduation
within 3 or more semesters of commencement of employment.The
candidate will have an American Heart Association Basic Life
Support (AHA BLS) Provider certification, or obtain one at first
opportunity.He or she will then be scheduled in an AHA BLS
Instructor course, and participate in the MART 498 AHA BLS classes
as a Certified Instructor.Learning OutcomesCertification and
experience as AHA BLS Provider and InstructorHeightened
understanding of and confidence in personal skills in the emergency
medical care of sick or injured marinersExperience in planning
training activities weeks in advance; ability to conduct these
activities smoothly and efficientlyOral/Written
CommunicationTeamwork/Collaboration and LeadershipIn accordance
