Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or Legal Assistant Certificate or equivalent, and four years of experience.

Job Description:

To provide the analytical, technical, and administrative support necessary to manage contracts, agreements, and relative information.

Job Related Duties:

Under attorney supervision, the preferred candidate for this position:

  • Provides professional expertise to international faculty, trainees, and other international visitors by assisting with preparation and processing of applications for all nonimmigrant visas (e.g. J, H, TN, O, etc.) sponsored and/or supported by the institution;
  • Provides Administration, Departments, and non-U.S. Citizens with professional expertise and written or verbal guidance on visa options and restrictions applicable to non-U.S. citizens appointed by, invited to, or visiting the institution;
  • Reviews immigration documents of non-U.S. citizens in order to determine eligibility to begin and/or continue appointment with institution;
  • Prepares appropriate written communication and petitions for initial visas, amendments, extensions, and transfers accurately and timely;
  • Serves as an Alternate Responsible Officer and/or a Designated School Official for the institution's J and F approved program(s);
  • Communicates with U.S. Department of Homeland Security immigration agencies, U.S. Department of Labor; U.S. Department of State and other designated authorities in processing documents for non-U.S. Citizens;
  • Provides appropriate visa clearances for employment, training, education, and/or visits to the institution;
  • Participates in conducting individual and group orientations and educational sessions regarding visa sponsorship and/or cross cultural activities;
  • Keeps abreast of all visa restrictions and changes in federal, state, local and international regulations impacting the sponsorship and/or maintenance of immigration status;
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.

Preferred Experience:

Prefer five years of experience relating to immigration law (e.g. International Advisor, Immigration Legal Assistant), including one year working with J-1 exchange visitor programs or business nonimmigrant visas (H-1B, TN).

Salary Range:

Actual salary commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
