The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the
healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the
Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile
Justice Department (TJJD).
Performs advanced emergency medical techniques in the care and
treatment of patients under medical supervision of the EMS Medical
Director and direct supervision of the EMS Shift Supervisor. Works
under medical direction with extensive latitude for the exercise of
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assesses patients and implements emergency medical treatment
including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and obstructed airway
techniques; dresses and bandages wounds; immobilizes bone and joint
injuries; applies pneumatic anti-shock trousers; provides oxygen
therapy; inserts nasal, oral, and endotracheal airway and suction
devices; and conducts peripheral venipuncture to administer
intravenous infusion of solutions, medications, and collects blood
samples; administers medications by subcutaneous, intramuscular,
intraosseous, intravenous and endotracheal routes; and performs
nasogastric tube insertion and urinary catheterizations.
- Monitors, records, and reports vital signs and patient's
condition; interprets cardiac monitor, performs external myocardial
defibrillation and cardioversion; as needed, contacts, doctors,
hospitals, and other entities by phone or radio.
- Performs on-site coordination and direction of lower level EMT
personnel during emergency situations; performs thoracic
decompression, pericardiocentesis, cricothyrotomies, and other
invasive procedures as approved by the EMS Medical Director.
- Utilizes emergency medical techniques to move, lift, carry, and
convey patients out of housing and other areas including up and
down stairs, over long distances, and into emergency vehicle;
extricates patients from vehicular or other entrapments.
- Inspects and operates emergency vehicles; cleans and maintains
vehicle, supplies, and equipment used in patient care.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs related duties as required.
Standard patient care supplies, equipment and mechanical
Located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile
detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment
drug testing is also required.
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician -
Paramedic by the Texas Department of Health. Current Texas driver
Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work
