Job Description:

Job Summary: Furthers the mission of the Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau (GICVB) by acting as the first contact to individuals visiting Galveston Island who enter the Galveston Island Visitor Information Center, the Galveston Island Mobile Visitor Information Center or call in for information. Responsible for assisting visitors with Galveston information. Works with Destination Services with visitors becoming temporary locals with shareable moments and lasting impressions from carefully curated and turn-key authentic island experiences.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Prefer previous experience in Customer Service-related role in a similar industry
  • Effective verbal communication skills; excellent phone manner
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Initiative to handle routine problems
  • Able to perform routine tasks
  • Data entry experience
  • Geographical knowledge of Galveston as well as willingness to drive outside of Galveston.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekend hours.
  • Outgoing guest service oriented individual desired.
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to plan and work in coordination with internal and external resources.
  • A professional commitment to excellence, professionalism, and creativity

Required current certifications, licenses and trainings

  • Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification or ability to become certified.
    • CTA training provided by the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees upon hire

Work Schedule

  • Must be available to work most holidays, weekends and special events.
  • Shifts generally fall between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily, but special events may require earlier or later start and end times.
  • Regular in-person attendance is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains a working knowledge of Galveston attractions, events, businesses, and recreational areas for Galveston Island.
  • Assists all visitors and visitor calls promptly, informatively and in a friendly manner.

Duties & Responsibilities Continued:

  • Ensures visitor information publications and brochures are well stocked and displayed. Disposes all outdated materials. Alert supervisor if inventory is low.
  • Responsible for selling gift shop items and reconciliation of payments.
  • Assists supervisor with inventory of gift shop merchandise.
  • Responsible for keeping all areas of the visitor center(s) neat, clean, and uncluttered.
  • Sends brochure requests to potential visitors in a timely manner.
  • Records all visitors and visitor request activity in CRM software, daily.
  • Promote Galveston Island as a year-round destination.
  • Encourage guests to stay overnight and/or return to Galveston.
  • Assist Destination Services with special projects such as data entry, on-line research, phone coverage and other duties as assigned.
  • May be responsible for other job duties as assigned by the Director of Destination Services or Destination Services Manager.
  • Ensures a memorable experience to all visitors by practicing the highest level of customer service.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.
  • Maintains "guest ready" appearance of self and the Visitor Centers, workspace and immediate public area at all times.
  • The ability to travel in and out of local area mainly by personal or company vehicle.

Physical Requirements

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend both written and oral communications, as well as respond in written and oral communication.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Must be able to occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to stand or sit throughout a shift (up to 8 hours per day)
  • Must be able work indoors or outdoors in various weather conditions and temperatures.
