These services include structured assessments, treatment, and documentation. The O.T.A. will be responsible for providing supervision and documentation for the patients activities. Additional duties are observing and documenting patient behavior, acting as a role model for trainees/clients, interacting with trainees/clients, implementing treatment plan designated by O.T.R.'s in regard to activities of daily living, insuring patient safety, reinforcing treatment plans and Moody Neuro policies, and assisting therapy staff with modules, and maintaining various checklists, and daily log sheets. Under the authority of an OTR, their primary job responsibility will be to provide assistance to trainees/clients with activities of daily living. The O.T.A. will uphold the mission, vision, philosophy, and goals of the organization while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and patient data and information in the performance of assigned duties.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Observe, monitor, intervene, document, and report patients social and interpersonal behavior and functional ability to perform as an independent individual in the community setting.Supervise ADL modules during day/evening as assigned.Provide transportation, observation, and documentation of responses on outings such as shopping trips, banking trips, etc.Assist therapist upon request as needed.Monitor and assist patients in obtaining goals in residential daily living tasks.Maintain accurate documentation and records including seizure reports, check sheets, critical incident reports, patients charts, behavior monitoring reports, etc.Maintain confidentiality.Provide safe and secure environment for patients.Discharge duties in accordance with Moody Neuro organizational policy, CARF and other accrediting bodies.Other duties as assigned.Critical Performance AreasResponds to requests for service by relaying information and referral to an OTR.Determines patients need for services in collaboration with an OTR.Contributes to the patients assessment under supervision of an OTR. Independently performs parts of assessments, using structured evaluations.Assists OTR in developing treatment plans and techniques to implement plans.Implements and modifies treatment plans, under OTR supervision.Monitors patients response to treatment and modifies treatment during sessions, as indicated, in collaboration with OTR.Reports observations and patients responses to service to OTR and to other team members when so directed by OTR.Recommends to supervisor the termination of services.Documents and maintains service-related records, as directed by supervising OTR.Assists in the development of treatment protocols.Assists in the development of service records and procedures.Communication and Interpersonal Skills:Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative service-oriented relationships with patients, the public, and other members of the health care team.Utilize courtesy, compassion, kindness and honesty while interacting with the public, patients, and all hospital personnel.Communicate with the appropriate supervisor, and other staff members regarding patient care issues in a professional manner.Adhere to facility policies pertaining to confidentiality by discussing patient information only with appropriate individuals in a professional manner.Provides assistance to OTR as directed.Departmental Responsibilities:Discharge duties in accordance with Moody Neuro organizational policy, CARF and other accrediting bodies.Completes special projects as assigned in a timely manner.Education Program:Attend in-services, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings.Identifies own continuing education needs.Provides in-service education, and community education within scope of knowledge base.Provides clinical direction to entry-level COTAs.Provides administration and clinical direction to OT Assistant fieldwork students.Related Activities:Assist in emergency situations including the implementation of fire alarms and fire drill procedures and the provisions of first aid treatment in case of illness or injury.Supervises volunteers.Assists OTR in the implementation of quality assurance program.Complies with established agency and service standards.Time Management:Demonstrate independent, effective priority setting of assigned tasks.Organize time effectively, completing assigned tasks within designated time frame or follow through with supervisor if unable to do so.Minimum QualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThe ability to work well with other people.Current CPR/First Aid.Knowledge/experience in working with the cognitive and physically disabled persons.Ability to adhere to directions and follow through in a timely efficient and professional mode.Flexibility to initiate and address needs as they arise.Skills in O.T. terminology/utilization in documentation.Ability to show other staff members how to implement daily living tasks.Ability to assist with physical transfers of patients.Ability to stoop and bend in assisting patients with modules.Obtain and maintain NCI CertificationEducation/Licensure:Associates Degree from an accredited academic program for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. Certification as Occupational Therapy Assistant from A.O.T.A. and state licensure.
