we’re mending minds. Position Summary The Speech Therapist serves
as the facility’s primary provider of speech-language pathology
services, conducting patient assessments, evaluations, and
delivering individualized therapeutic interventions. This role
plays an essential part in helping pediatric patients achieve
improved communication, swallowing, and functional independence
within an interdisciplinary treatment environment. Job-Specific
Responsibilities Performs speech therapy services for assigned
pediatric patients. Screens, evaluates, and develops individualized
treatment plans. Evaluates patients within two to three working
days of physician referral, depending on level of care. Provides
age-appropriate, evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
Evaluates patient response to therapy and updates the treatment
plan as needed. Communicates treatment progress and updates to
staff, physicians, and family members. Documents all treatments,
outcomes, and required documentation daily according to regulatory
and professional guidelines. Provides patient and family education
to support continued functional communication and independence.
Communicates results of evaluations and recommendations to the
treatment team and patient/family. Participates in patient care
conferences to provide updates on progress and goals. Serves as a
resource in areas of speech-language pathology and provides
in-services as needed. Coordinates treatment activities with other
disciplines and team members. Contributes to improved efficiency
and productivity of unit clinical functions. Offers positive
solutions to enhance service delivery and operations. Assists with
the development of student programs when requested. Utilizes
resources appropriately and maintains therapy equipment to prolong
its working life. Participates in discharge planning and
recommendations. Accurately documents and charges daily therapeutic
units in a timely manner. Communicates with the Director of
Clinical Services regarding programs, goals, challenges, and
successes. Supervises Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPA)
in direct patient care and related activities. Performs other
duties as assigned. Position Qualifications Education Master’s
degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a program accredited by
the Speech-Language Pathology Educational Standards Board or one
meeting ASHA certification requirements. Experience Minimum of one
year working with adult and adolescent populations, preferably in a
hospital setting. (Pediatric experience preferred but not
required.) Licensure/Certification Current Texas licensure in
Speech-Language Pathology. Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification. Must maintain all certifications in good standing
throughout employment.
