Job Description MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE -
Associates of Applied Science - Graduate of an accredited Nuclear
Medicine Technology program - 0 years of experience LICENSES,
REGISTRATIONS OR CERTIFICATIONS - American Registry for Radiology
Technologist (ARRT-N) or NMTCB Certified Nuclear Medicine
Technologist (CNMT) - Texas Medical Board certification (MRT) -
American Heart Association (BLS) WORK SCHEDULE The hours will be
during day shift on weekdays, up to 19. 99 hours per week with no
benefits. JOB DESCRIPTION The Nuclear Medicine Technologist I
position works independently to complete a variety of nuclear
medicine procedures to include diagnostic and therapeutic exams of
moderate complexity. This position provides direct assistance to
physicians with all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This
Nuclear Medicine Technologist I position delivers exceptional
patient care and adheres to nuclear medicine exam standards and
guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal
patient safety and customer service. This position is a member of
the direct patient care team. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Promotes a
positive work environment. - Collaborates with all members of the
patient care team. - Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards
department goals for retention and employee engagement. - Utilizes
verbal, nonverbal & written communication to achieve mutual
understanding. - Proactive to responding to the needs of the
patient. - Optimizing protocols to provide for better patient care,
image quality and patient experience. This includes positioning,
physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. - Assists
physicians during diagnostic procedures including assisting with
sterile technique. - Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and
MANAGE UP techniques, when speaking to patients and family members
at an age-appropriate level. - Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine
procedures to include common, special exams of moderate complexity.
- Practices radiation safety and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably
Achievable). - Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging
procedures accordingly. - Maintains proper sterile techniques for
procedures. - Complies with job role, department and hospital
safety standards, practices, and policies. - Participate in WASTE
walks and supports department LEAN projects. - Reports near misses
and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety
reporting system to improve processes and identify trends. -
Performs hot lab and imaging equipment quality control (QC) at
required frequencies ensuring all hot lab and imaging equipment is
in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to
management and regularly practices preventive maintenance
procedures; calls for service if needed. - Utilizes critical
thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient
reactions (i.e. medications) or potential outcomes and obtains
assistance, as appropriate. - Provides accurate and complete
documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time
service is delivered. - Uses resources efficiently; does not waste
supplies. - Ensures their personal timecard is accurate and
approves it in a timely manner to prevent retro amendments. -
Participates in department projects or shared governance
activities. - Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond
baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a
technologist. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES - Demonstrates the skills
and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job,
determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and
performance evaluations. - Sufficient proficiency in speaking,
reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the
essential functions of this job, especially with regards to
activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. -
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians,
family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a
customer service focus and application of positive language
principles. - Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple
computer systems to include, Hospital / Radiology Information
Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal and team player skills with all
levels of the healthcare team and assures delivery of excellent
customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and
co-workers. - Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal
supervision including, organizing workflow and actively
participating in problem-solving. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT -
Work attire is scrubs. - Equipment you will be using: - Nuclear
Medicine Units/PET, and hot lab equipment of various vendors -
Electronic Health Record - PACS - Employee may be asked to travel
to other UTMB campuses. - Employees are required to participate in
call, weekend, holiday, and disaster team rotations to include
emergencies and severe weather. - May be exposed to such
occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne
pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications
and disoriented or combative patients or others. - Must be able to
push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds. - Must be able to walk long
distances. - Must be able to stand for a continuous 60 minutes at a
