JOB DESCRIPTION: The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is recruiting a Clinical Psychologist/Assistant Professor (non-tenured track) to join our mental health team. The team consists of three Psychologists, a Ph.D. in Social Work, a LPC and a LCSW within the Division of Adolescent and Behavioral medicine. The division also includes two Developmental/Behavioral Pediatricians. An Adolescent Medicine pediatrician is the division director. Integration of behavioral medicine into patient care has a long and respected history in the Department and is facilitated by mental health providers being embedded in clinic space that also includes Ambulatory and Subspecialty clinics.Outpatient provision of clinical services is supported by clinic staff who schedule appointments, make reminder calls, and obtain needed clinical materials.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Outpatient services to be provided by this position include:
  • Psychological testing for referral questions regarding intellectual, cognitive, social, and emotional functioning for a diverse range of patients, e.g., related to medical condition, in utero/early environment, autism, anxiety, depression, disruptive behavior.
  • Preterm follow up clinic to provide neurodevelopmental evaluation using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, 4th ed for graduates of the neonatal intensive care unit born at 32 weeks or younger gestation. Evaluations are at 12 month adjusted and 24 month chronological ages. The follow up clinic includes neonatologists, neonatology fellows, an occupational therapist, and dietician. Training on the Bayley-4 is available.
  • Dyslexia testing including identification of subtypes in reading, math, and writing and school-base and private intervention resources.
  • Therapy for children, adolescents, and families to address various behavioral, mood, trauma, and/or child-parent interactions.
  • Urgent care for triaged patients identified as having, or at high risk for, suicidal ideation or non-suicidal self-harm through a rotation system within the mental health team.
  • Developmental assessments to support grants in the Perinatal Research Division in the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine Network. Current assessment tools include the Bayley-4, Developmental Abilities, Scale, 2nd ed., and the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, 2nd ed. Training on these tests is available.
  • In addition to a competitive salary and benefits with participation in an Optional Retirement Plan with matching funds, this faculty position includes professional liability insurance through the University of Texas System, reimbursement for cost of state license and a generous discretionary fund that can be used to attend conferences and obtain state required CEUs.
  • Initial interviews will be virtual and followed by in person visits. The successful candidate will be offered a maximum of $15,000 for qualified moving expenses. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Graduation from an APA approved Medical-Health/Clinical psychology Ph.D. program
    • License in Texas, or license eligible through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Completion of an APA approved internship with emphasis in pediatric and/or child populations
