Min Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: RN with critical care and/or Cath/EP experience, intermediate care experience or two years of clinical RN experience. Must possess and maintain a current license or valid permit to practice in Texas. Cardiovascular certification such as CVRN II or higher, CCRN, RCIS, RCES preferred, however, once hired certification is required upon completion of training. JOB SUMMARY: Competent Clinician. Possesses knowledge and skill to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice as specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Experienced, knowledgeable and skilled in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cardiac Cath Lab) and Electrophysiology Laboratory (EP Lab) procedures and equipment. Independently assists in cardiac catheterization as well as electrophysiology, vascular and interventional procedures. Competently performs emergency procedures associated with catheterization procedure. Follows established standards and practices under the direction of a credentialed invasive cardiologist and electrophysiologist. Competently functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Practice is characterized by predominantly interdependent decision-making. Practice is problem focused and patient centered in the manner care is provided and able to manage unexpected or emergency situations. Serves as a resource for Cath Lab - Nurse Clinician I or II. Can manage commonly seen contingency situations that arise in the department. Provides patient care through nursing practices based upon the American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Nursing Process and UTMBs three domains for competency and advancement: Professional Practice, and Professional Performance. Values specialty unit, nursing, and institutional strategic initiatives and health system goals. Specific Job Related Duties

* Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents the daily care of assigned patients * Identifies actual and potential nursing diagnoses/patient care needs; develops and individualizes care plan, and revises plan of care as needed * Executes physician's orders for all assigned patients. Administers medications and treatments and delivers culturally congruent and specialty appropriate competent nursing care in accordance with UTMB's policies, procedures, and standards in a caring and compassionate manner * Competently and independently performs routine technical procedures/skills in assigned specialty area: * Cath Lab and EP procedures and equipment * Competently demonstrates knowledge and skills to perform Cath Lab and EP procedures and utilize equipment * Competent in identifying cardiac rhythms, waveforms and abnormal ranges and taking appropriate intervention * Competently demonstrates knowledge and competency in use of medications including cardiac medications, emergency drugs, moderate sedation and reversal agents * Provides uncomplicated and complex patient/family instruction and healthcare teaching based on identified learning needs (patient values, beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn) * Coaches others in strategies for patient/family inclusion and serves as a resource to others for patients/families with complex learning needs

Work Schedule

* On call duty is required and unpredictable work hours may be required to complete the procedure * Travel to additional satellite procedure location * Routine exposure to radiation is necessary * Wearing lead apron that weights approximately 20 lbs. all day and other radiation protective device as needed * May be required to be on standby and work extended hours/shifts in situations deemed necessary by the department, Chief Nursing Officer, Cath Lab Director and/or Nurse Manager/Designee

Position is a 4 days a week with rotating day off. 7:30 am-6:00 pm (or last patient is done).
