The Coordinating Research on Emerging Arboviral Threats Encompassing the Neotropics (CREATE-NEO) Research Center will provide a nimble and flexible network of surveillance sites in Central and South America coupled to cutting-edge modeling approaches in order to anticipate and counter emerging arboviruses to study the transmission and emergence dynamics of emerging zoonotic arboviruses. The multinational collaborative CREATE-NEO Research Center will also build local capacity to detect, predict and respond to emerging arboviruses at their point of origin, thereby maximizing the potential to avert full-blown emergence.The Centers for Research in Emerging Infectious Disease (CREID) is a coordinated network with centers in regions around the globe where emerging and re-emerging infectious disease outbreaks are likely to occur. Multidisciplinary teams of investigators will conduct pathogen/host surveillance, study pathogen transmission, pathogenesis and immunologic responses in the host, and will develop reagents and diagnostic assays for improved detection for important emerging pathogens and their vectors. Provides leadership for planning, implementing activities and writing progress reports. Plans and implements educational programs including seminars and symposia utilizing a variety of methods including mass media, newsletters, electronic technology and distance learning. Coordinates visits among scientists at partner institutions (as applicable). Prepares quarterly reports and yearly impact statements on program progress and accomplishments. Supports the efforts of Center Principal Investigators and co-Investigators. Individually and collaboratively explore and pursue new and additional funding sources to enhance and extend program opportunities. Oversees and supervises all business and administrative activities relating to program operations and budget. Provides leadership for the program and promotes teamwork. Serves as a liaison between institutional departments and national and international Center partners to assess Center needs and develop project plans and budgets. Coordinates all joint operations for the Center with both internal and external sources. Works with other campus departments and Center partners to establish collaborative programs. Assists in identifying potential funding sources for the Center and prepares/monitors budgets to ensure services are provided in a cost-effective manner. Reviews existing contracts for renewal. Facilitates development of goals, performance standards, and objectives of the Center. Works with other campus departments and Center partners to establish collaborative programs. Responsible for identifying and evaluating the need for new equipment, supplies, communication services, and information services for all areas of the Center. Initiates implementation plans for new projects and services within the Center Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures. Assists in grant writing.
