Min Qualifications

RN with a minimum of five (5) years' professional experience, of which at least two (2) must be in a healthcare setting. Graduation from an approved nursing program and valid licensure/permit to practice professional nursing in Texas.

Job Summary:

The Medical Processing Manager for the Center for Polar Medical Operations (CPMO) is responsible for the oversight of the medical screening process for the Arctic & Antarctic Medical Programs and ensures that clinical care is provided in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. In addition, this position will work with both the Chief Medical Officer - CPMO and Director - CPMO to support the medical program, establish and enhance standards of care, policies and procedures, and to assess, monitor and/or oversee the clinical care provided in Antarctica in an efficient, high quality manner in collaboration with Lockheed Martin (LM), the Antarctic Support Contractor (ASC) for the United States Antarctic Program (USAP).

Salary Range

Actual salary commensurate with experience.

Specific Job Related Duties

--- Obtains medical histories, organizes relevant data, performs physical examinations, and suggests pertinent laboratory, radiographic or other studies that are needed to establish or support a diagnosis.

--- Facilitate in the development, enhancement, and/or implementation of the physical and mental health screening processes for personnel deploying to the Arctic or Antarctica, while ensuring compliance with the approved screening guidelines.
--- Coordinate waiver process between participants and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
--- Participate in meetings with Antarctic clinics as required.
--- Develops and implements policies, procedures, and programs related to CPMO in conjunction with CMO, Director, and teammates.
--- Serves as a liaison between participants/customers, internal and external providers, Antarctic Support Contract (ASC), and NSF to include physicians, families, medical staff, and ancillary departments. Demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate barriers and resolve issues efficiently and appropriately with all stakeholders.
--- Monitors staffing levels and adjusts as appropriate to meet Physical Qualification (PQ) demands.
--- Evaluates/documents performance of personnel and takes corrective action as appropriate.
--- Coordinate clinic PQ functions such as assessment, patient teaching, and medical record documentation.
--- Represents CPMO when meeting and working with other components of UTMB, ASC, and NSF.
--- Assists in conducting orientation programs for CPMO medical personnel.
--- Assists with the management and procurement of programmatic supplies.
--- Identify opportunities for improvement in all aspects of the clinic.
--- Facilitates patient flow, communication, and problem resolution.
--- Assists nursing staff in evaluating patient care needs.
--- Assists with staffing when necessary by performing nursing functions.
--- Project Coordination.
--- Serves, as requested, on task forces, work groups, or committees.
--- Leads / participates, as appropriate, in collaborative team approaches to developing and enhancing an integrated PQ process.
--- Collaborate with administrative, medical, clinical, and other staff to ensure the efficient operations of the CPMO.
--- Communicate with participants to resolve inquiries.
--- Recognize the need and responds in a timely manner to inform CMO of operational issues within areas of responsibility.
--- Direct and/or Indirect supervision of non-clinical staff.
--- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
--- Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Assist and assess the individuals in successfully performing the following:

Preferred Education

--- Graduation from an Accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program and current licensure to practice from any U.S. state with a minimum of two years practice.
--- Registration with Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification with American Heart Association in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
--- Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) preferred and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required every two years.
--- License to practice in Texas.

Preferred License/Certificate

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Preferred Work Experience

--- 3 years of supervisory experience including nurses, technicians, and other administrative roles.
--- Two years' experience in a primary care, emergency medicine, or remote/austere environment setting.
--- Strong experience in MS Office skills.
