Min Qualifications

--- M.D., D.O. or equivalent degree
--- M.P.H. or equivalent degree
--- Board certification in a clinical medicine discipline such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine
--- Board certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (Aerospace) or board eligible
--- Texas Medical License or ability to obtain such license within 6 months of start date
--- Minimum of one year of experience in the practice of Aerospace Medicine

Salary Range

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Specific Job Related Duties

This position involves activities in three primary areas:

(1)The position will include serving as the Associate Director of the Aerospace Medicine Residency Program and the Combined Internal Medicine/Aerospace Medicine Residency Program. The position also will support the Aerospace Medical School Track. Education responsibilities include teaching and mentoring students in the M.P.H. Program; teaching in courses such as the Principles of Aviation and Space Medicine course and other courses with aerospace medicine content that may be developed.

(2) Research responsibilities include supporting grants and contracts with the FAA Center of Excellence for Commercial Space Transportation (FAA COE CST), the NASA Human Research Program's Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC), and other organizations.

(3) Clinical responsibilities include conducting pilot aviation medical examinations, spaceflight participant medical evaluations, air crew fitness for duty and disability evaluations, monitoring of airmen in the FAA program for pilots with alcohol or substance abuse problems (HIMS Program), and other aerospace related clinical activities in the Aerospace Medicine Center

Specific Job Related Duties:

Serves as Associate Program Director of the Aerospace Medicine Residency Program, managing the training of aerospace medicine residents in both the traditional track and the combined track (with Internal Medicine). Serves as the Director or Co-director of the Principles of Aviation and Space Medicine course. Assists in teaching and mentoring in the M.P.H. program in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Population Health.

Research responsibilities include assisting with and/or initiating proposals for new and additional funding of research projects with the FAA Center of Excellence for Commercial Space Transportation (FAA COE CST), the NASA Human Research Program's Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC), and other organizations. Serves as Principal Investigator or Co-investigator for funded projects; mentors aerospace medicine residents in research projects during their residency.

Clinical work in the Aerospace Medicine Center (AMC); ensures high quality medical evaluation and care of pilots and air crew members evaluated through the AMC; ensures proper interpretation and application of aerospace medical standards to determine medical qualifications for FAA and various corporate aviation-related medical requirements, as well as FAA and other governmental commercial spaceflight standards for future commercial spaceflight crew and passengers.
